It is amazing what a little rain can do. 8:30am and still no vendors have started to set up. This is the first day that Jacek will try brewing coffee from his SRO room (after getting kicked out by Jacobs Well) and thus we can concentrate on being at the market instead of watching the coffee brew in the morning.
A vendor looked like he was setting up in Carl's spot, next to my parking area. It turned out he was just setting out a tent that he wanted to sell, looking for holes. We had a pleasant conversation, and he told me that
Jesse give me one of his home made banana fritters to try. Delicious. The little things can make such a difference on a rainy Sunday morning.
Fund Raising Report
1) Tables/Tents: $74.25
2) Coffee/Juice: $59.45
3) 50/50 Draw: $34.75
Total for the day = $168.45
Not a great total at all, but considering it was raining the entire time, not bad.
Now that we have confirmation of our yearly core funding from CoV, we can start spending some of our saved up fund raising revenue to buy the tables and tents that we need.
At the Monday Steering committee meeting, we should plan out how to get a set up and tear down crew going.
Vendor Count: 50 @ 2pm approximate
General Report
Tim S did a great job again with the drinkers in the park. There was again no trouble from them. Rob tells us that they will vote in a new representative or set up a rotation at the EIDGE group at VANDU.
Susana - a vendor from the Van Horn, will be heading back to work at a family restaurant in Idaho. Too bad.
Mingo, a long time vendor told us that he has a trouble now with vending tickets. He will come to our meeting on Monday and hopefully get some help.
The only event of note during the day was that a very faded woman insisted on taking her pants down in front of all the people at the market. Sheri was kind enough to ask her to keep her pants on, and got her to hike them up several times. The third or fourth time, Sheri was greeted with spews of abuse and profanity. Sheri urged me to call the police and I did. The police came and talked to the woman who was running around with her pants down to her ankles. It was unfortunate, but we tried to solve the situation without the police, and it was not possible.
At 5pm, Brandon from the Pidgin restaurant set up a food line, giving out soup to the volunteers and vendors left over at pigeon park. This was appreciated. He got help from some women that lived at the Rainier Hotel.
The rain helped the clean up, vendors were entirely gone from the park at 6pm, and the garbage truck came shortly after 6pm.
