Street Market Report - Jan 27, 2013

It was a slow day, not many vendors and customers largely stayed away due to the rain. At noon and 1:30 we had only barely above 40 vendors, and a customer count was not made. This shows how vulnerable the market still is to the Vancouver weather and shows how desperately we need more 10x10 canopy tents.

Fund Raising Report

1) 50/50 Raffle: $34.30 (341 tickets sold x $0.25 = $85.25 predicted purse, $84.30 counted, first prize = $43, 2nd prize = $10, 1st prize winner donated $2 back to purse)
2) Table/Tent Rental: $147.00 (+ $13 from Dianne for last week) - good day due to rain
3) Coffee/Juice Sales: $62.16 (sold out of coffee and hot chocolate)

Total for the day = $256.46

Total immediate expendables - $75.57
Incremental Profit for the day = $180.89
Total in petty cash now = $1,568.78
We are still conserving cash and not buying more tables/tents since we are still waiting for details on our CoV grant.

Vendor Count:
47 @ 12:00 noon
42 @ 1:30 pm

General Report

Street was closed at 11:55am, it was opened at 4:55pm.

Louise L was here again to do outreach to the vendors. She handed out notices on our price discounts to vendors who register for meetings. Hopefully this will encourage them to participate. We need to find a Cantonese translator to edit these notices for the Chinatown vendors.

Peter K had to be sent home for being verbally abusive toward RPIC#2 (Lorna), and Dianne quit half way through her shift. We had a number of workers that fished for the first time (week after welfare is always hard to find workers), and they did a good job. Wade, Chucky and Miles were great on their first day.

Dianne's tent was all alone at the end of the market, because the street was largely clear from the rain. We had four tents in the street lined up nicely along the bicycle path. Hopefully the neighbours noticed. Next week perhaps we will try and get a tarp to hang on the tents to separate the tents from the bicycle path and keep the Greenway open.

One man needed medical attention at about 1:30pm. Ambulance was called. I was not involved. I believe that he was one of the illicit drinkers.

At the end of the day, an illicit drinker started violently throwing our plastic tables around (a vendor had left them on the spot) and we waited until he got tired before collecting them. There was no confrontation, and the situation dissipated peacefully.

The park was spotless by 6pm. The garbage truck arrived shortly before 6, and the pile was moved from the police parking spot to the west alley. This is now considered to be a better spot for garbage piling.
