Well... We avoided the rain again mostly. A few smatterings, as they say, but nothing to drive away our loyal customers.
We did have an incident with one of the volunteers, Anthony, who was told not to work at the market for a month (due to behaviour that was objectionable to several vendors), who tried to work his way into the market by other means. First, he tried to reserve a tent and table for his organization. The Saturday operational meeting decided that since they would not be selling anything, that they should give a presentation to the volunteers (as is normal protocol for vendors at the market that want to reserve a tent and table), before they would be granted a tent and table. Anthony showed up on Sunday anyway asking for his tent and table. When he was informed of the protocol, he decided that he would work the DNC outreach table. Immediately, our RPICs objected since he had not completed his one month ban from working at the market, and they felt that this would be a loophole in the rules. The banned volunteer, Anthony, then stood very close to the main tent, circling, talking on the phone, and yelling swear words at the RPIC#1. When the coordinators informed him that there would be issues with his behavior brought up at the DNC board, he left and began to send belligerent emails to the entire DNC board. Suffice it to say that the DNC board accepted Anthony's resignation at the Tuesday board meeting and we wish him the best of luck in any of the other groups he may wish to join. During the board meeting, a threatening text message was sent to Roland, which is included in the DNC board minutes (dtescouncil.blogspot.ca) and the police were called and a report was made. We at the street market would like to apologize to anyone that had an unfortunate encounter with this volunteer, and hope that this incident will be viewed in a positive light and that the street market is more than capable of dealing swiftly and responsibly to these unfortunate circumstances.
There were a few other issues of note. We gave one vendor that lives in Burnaby too much leeway, and finally had to formally ask her to leave. The rules of the market are quite clear that if you live outside the DTES then you must come to the board and ask special permission to vend at the market.
Holiday season is upon us now, we are all excite to see the many Christmassy items that start to roll into our market. Keep a special eye out for that gift for the special someone at bargain prices.

Seems low for a Sunday before welfare, but the threat of rain certainly was a factor for some people. Still a very healthy turnout in the winter.
