DTES Street Market Report - May 11, 2014

It was a beautiful day, a clear sign of summer.
The weather was perfect, and the vendors and customers came in droves.

I was also our Mother's Day market.

We made close to record amounts of revenue, and are starting to search for other revenue streams... soft ice cream? slushies? hot dogs? training site could be 62 East Hastings.

The main incident of note was that a group of binners (I do not call them vendors because they clearly do not have the best interests of the market at heart) set up on Cordova st. around the corner east of the market area. The manager of the Van Horne came out, and we sent a bunch of volunteers to help.
After a while, it was clear to the volunteers that the binners were not going to move, despite complaints by the Van Horne, and the businesses that they were blocking.
The volunteers flagged down the police, and the police refused to help, saying that they would not give the binners tickets.

This is fine, we are used to the police not helping us, next Sunday we will take out the hose and clear the sidewalk ourselves. Hopefully this will be acceptable to the residents of the Van Horne and the businesses that are trying to make a go of it on Cordova.

Financial Report

1) Coffee/Pop Sales = $124.75
2) Table/Tent Rental = $128.00
3) 50/50 Raffle = $48.95

Total revenue for the day = $301.70
Total spending for the week = $659.63
(purchased a new tent, two big patio heaters for winter, two new big power cords, etc...)

Petty cash now down to -$112.98

We need to go through a period of only buying bare essentials in order to build up our petty cash reserves.

Vendor Report

We counted 239 at noon. This is a new record. We clearly need to beef up our crowd control and our vendor registration capabilities.

Bathroom Report

We counted 114 between 10am and 1pm, and counted 193 between 1pm and 4pm.
This is also a new record. 300 uses in a 5 hour period translates to one bathroom use per minute during our event.
