50/50 draw took place today at the normal time
No lock box was used, however, Jacek held the tickets and walked
around with Lorna for quite a while
Total take was $60
50% prize was $30
$10 second prize left $20
$10 for cigarettes left $10 in the kitty for the market
This $10 + the accounting sheet is now in my possession in a little
zip lock baggy
I don't really have the time to spend more than an hour or so at the
market on Sundays, so another watcher, if needed, will have to be
found. Supposedly Andrei was not in attendance today.
In other news...
I happened to be having a beer at the Legion hall on Commercial with a
buddy on Saturday, and low and behold... they have a 50/50 draw at the
legion over there themselves.
I bought a ticket for this 50/50 draw from the nice lady named Debbie
and asked her how they ensure that valuable moneys are not absconded
with during such a contest of luck - or ... more the point ... how do
they ensure that some of the perhaps liquored patrons do not become
convinced that such absconding is occurring.
Debbie told me that she couldn't scarf any of the cash even if she
wanted to because all someone would have to do is count the tickets.
All their tickets are the same price, so it is easy. Total tickets ==
Total Moneys
This system would be just as easy as with our draw, we would merely
have to write down how many 'arms length' packets were purchased and
there you have it - bob's your uncle - no more potential for the
graft... Seeing as it would be now more than twice as difficult to
perpetrate given that the alleged scoundrel would have to alter the
ticket jar by exactly the same amount as the money jar, and these two
jars could be held by different trustful individuals, the likelihood,
and therefore the distrustful jabbering, would be greatly reduced.
What say the Street Market Committee to this stroke of good old
fashioned Legion Hall genius?
